Uji Efek Anti Bakteri Ekstrak Bunga Cengkeh Terhadap Bakteri Streptococcus Mutanssecara in Vitro

Karies gigi merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan gigi dan mulut yang banyak disebabkan oleh aktivitas bakteri Streptococcus mutans. Penggunaan antibakteri sintetis dalam jangka panjang dapat menimbulkan efek samping sehingga diperlukan alternatif bahan alami yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri. Bunga cengkeh (Syzygium aromaticum) diketahui mengandung senyawa bioaktif seperti eugenol, flavonoid, tanin, alkaloid, dan saponin yang berpotensi sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek antibakteri ekstrak bunga cengkeh terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus mutans secara in vitro. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen laboratorik dengan rancangan post test only control group design. Uji aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan menggunakan metode difusi cakram (Kirby-Bauer) dengan konsentrasi ekstrak bunga cengkeh 40%, 60%, dan 80%, serta ciprofloxacin sebagai kontrol positif dan aquades sebagai kontrol negatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata zona hambat ekstrak bunga cengkeh pada konsentrasi 40%, 60%, dan 80% masing-masing sebesar 17,78 ± 1,22 mm², 19,12 ± 1,91 mm², dan 26,95 ± 3,37 mm², sedangkan kontrol positif ciprofloxacin sebesar 37,56 ± 1,66 mm², dan kontrol negatif aquades sebesar 0,00 ± 0,00 mm². Hasil analisis statistik menunjukkan nilai p-value <0,001, yang menunjukkan adanya pengaruh signifikan ekstrak bunga cengkeh terhadap pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans. Disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak bunga cengkeh memiliki efek antibakteri terhadap bakteri Streptococcus mutans, dengan konsentrasi 80% sebagai konsentrasi paling efektif.
